Olympic Events at New Prospect

Olympic fever is happening right now at New Prospect Public School.
The school has been celebrating the Olympics with a number of events of their own.
The events range from door decorating to healthy eating.
Kim Douglas, resource teacher at New Prospect Public School explains the main initiative of the events taking place.
“What we really want to do is build community within the community, so what we’re trying to do is have each classroom represent a country that’s going to the Olympics and then we basically learn about it and then pull together at the end and have a fun play day,” she says.
This is the second time the school is celebrating with their own Olympic events. They previously did it in 2010 when the Olympics took place in Vancouver.
Douglas told CKDR what she hopes the kids will take away from the Olympic events, “An appreciation about teamwork, cooperation and how we’re really a school community that works together to learn new things.”
The school’s events will go until February 21.
