Dryden council has finally approved Fire Chief Ken Kurz’ proposal on the fire dispatching project.
The City will go with the Kenora Central Ambulance & Fire Communications Centre.
Kurz explains why Kenora was a better option opposed to Owen Sound.
“Cost is one reason, all the fire departments in the area that have gone to it previously are happy with it and the reliability of the service. You are dealing with Bell Mobility and the Ministry of Health through Kenora Ambulance, you are dealing with reputable corporations,” he says.
Kurz also tells CKDR why going with Kenora was the smarter decision.
“It will give the fire services the ability to be able to go to a channel and talk to its partners and ambulance, knowing where their partners are, will be a big benefit.”
The one time cost for the fire dispatch services in Kenora is a total of $75,900 for a 5 year term.
Wabigoon and Oxdrift fire will also be contributing to one third of the amount.
The next step will be installing the equipment before March 31st.
