Ombudsman Takes Aim At Hydro One

A scathing report from Ontario’s Ombudsman about Hydro One.

Andre Marin has released his final report on the roughly 10,700 complaints his office has received about the crown corporation.

Marin says Hydro One needs to make a number of serious changes to its corporate culture.

Marin says instead of coming clean about billing problems, Hydro One tried to deceive and mislead the Ontario Energy Board, the Minister of Energy and its board of directors.

He is making a number of recommendations including improving Hydro One’s call centre operations, internal reporting and making bills easier to understand.

Marin also has some reservations about the sale of the crown corporation.

He says the organization will no longer be under the scrutiny of his office once it’s privatized.

Marin notes that will lead to less protection for consumers.
