The Ontario Nurses’ Association is out with a list of 13-recommendations on improving the health care system in Rural and Northern Ontario.
First Vice-President Vicki McKenna says the Government needs a stronger plan.
Among the recommendations in the ONA’s submission is that the Government fund the creation and protection of full-time, permanent Registered Nursing positions.
Currently, 65% of RN positions held by ONA members in Northern Ontario are part-time, compared with 54% for the rest of the Province.
The ONA is also demanding that socio-economic and environmental issues in Northern Ontario be examined in order to address the root causes of lower life expectancy.
McKenna is asking the Government to act on the report and not let it sit on the shelf and collect dust.
