One Day Conference On Wood Rights And Reforms

Mill managers, experts and community members are brainstorming ideas on how forest cutting rights can be reformed.
They spent a day Wednesday discussing forest industry issues.
Dryden’s Domtar Forestlands Manager Jack Harrison was one of the speakers and says it’s really about hearing from other companies and seeing how they’re accessing their wood.
Harrison adds says they are in good shape in Dryden but notes it’s important to learn what’s working and what’s not.
Fort Frances is the most impacted right now with the current system as it struggles to reopen the idled Resolute Mill.
Mayor Roy Avis felt the conference was very beneficial.
CAO Mark McCaig spoke about why the system needs to change since currently they lost out on a potential buyer for their defunct mill.
The Ministry of Natural Resources kicked off the day long conference with an update on forest tenure and what the government is doing to help ensure mills get access to wood.
