A so-called “Mammothon” is taking place across northwestern Ontario on Wednesday.
The initiative is aimed at getting more women screened for breast cancer in an easier and more accessible way.
Hospitals, including the Meno Ya Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout, are hosting a mix of walk-in and pre-booked appointments today.
Women, between the ages of 50 and 74 years, should be screened for breast cancer every two years with a mammogram.
Currently, only 61.8% of eligible women in our region are up-to-date with their breast cancer screening.

It’s also being held in Kenora, Fort Frances and Thunder Bay.
