Thunder Bay’s Regional Research Institute is on the receiving end of a million dollar Provincial Government funding announcement.
CEO Dr. Michael Woods says they’ll use the money to buy a new state of the art MRI which will be used to research brain diseases.
The first project to get off the ground with it involves developing tools to help understand chances to the neuro-circuits when a patient has a stroke, and then recovers through rehabilitation.
Woods says the MRI is one part of the project, and they have plans to replace a scanner that was put in the hospital back in 1996-1997.
The MRI will cost 5 million dollars in total, and the TBRI as well as the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center will contribute funding.
