Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, including more than four thousand in the Northwest are a step closer to a strike.
They’ve voted 88-per cent to reject the provincial government’s latest contract offer.
OPSEU President Leah Casselman says the vote result gives her a strong mandate to start “real negotiations.”
But the Tories say they have presented a “positive offer” and that any strike would be “unnecessary and unwarranted.”
In addition to higher wages, OPSEU is demanding improvements in job classifications, cost-of-living, job security and pensions.
The earliest a strike could start is March 13th.
Most OPSEU members in the Northwest work for the courts and the Ministries of Natural Resources and Labour.
