The provincial government is going away with the Ontario Municipal Board.
It intends to replace it with a Local Planning Appeals Tribunal.
Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Mauro says the new tribunal will give greater weight to the land use planning decisions at the local level.
Mauro says council’s decisions will still have to conform to and be consistent with provincial plans and policies.
He says it will also eliminate the need for municipal decisions, when in dispute, heading for what are often lengthy and costly OMB hearings for a ruling.
