Ontario Throne Speech

The throne speech opening the first session of the
Ontario legislature since the October 6th election sounds a lot like the Liberal campaign platform.
The speech confirms the government will introduce a $1,500 home renovation tax credit for seniors and a 30 per cent tuition fee cut for college and university students starting January 1st.
It also promises to take the next steps toward all-day GO train service in the Golden Horseshoe, another key plank in the Liberal campaign book.
There’s no mention of Progressive Conservative demands for a
public sector wage freeze or the NDP’s call for an end to scheduled corporate tax cuts.
The throne speech also talks about the need to curb government spending so Ontario can stay on track to
eliminate a $16-billion deficit by 2017-18.
It says the Liberals intend to implement the plan they campaigned
on, and talks about the four-year mandate they were given despite
the fact they’ve been reduced to a minority government.
