Teen Pregnancies On the Rise

Staggering data to dissect for health care providers in the Kenora District.
Data collected by the ‘Code Red’ Agency shows that there were 53-pregnancies for every 1,000 girls between the ages of 15 and 19 in 2009.
That’s far more than the Ontario average of just less than 29.
At Sandy Lake First Nation, 40% of the mothers giving birth were teens and in Pikangikum, 47 of the 144 mothers were between the ages of 15 and 19.
The data also shows that 21% of teen pregnancies ended in abortion.
