ONWA Urging Government To Implement Recommendations

The Ontario Native Women’s Association is urging Canada to implement the 94 recommendations made by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The commission studied the impact of residential schools on First Nation communities.

Association spokesperson Maryanne Matthews says cost should not get in the way of making the recommendations a reality.

Matthews stresses there are ways to implement the suggestions in a cost effective manner that will benefit Ontario and Canada.

She says they need to see some change and notes as long as the problems continue to exist they’ll have a negative financial impact on the country.
