The Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police is defending the cost of his police service.
Speaking in Kenora, Chris Lewis admitted that municipalities are concerned about a pending 8.5% increase in officer salaries next year.
Lewis notes officers took two years without a raise.
He stresses the OPP remains a competitive alternative for a number of municipalities.
Lewis says the OPP ranks 32nd in Ontario right now in terms of the cost of providing police service.
Lewis also maintains that the OPP is one of the lowest costing police services in the province.
He notes they will continue to work with municipalities to find savings and notes other police forces are going through the same trials and tribulations right now.
