OPP Launching ‘Operation Safe Driving’

Provincial Police say fatal transport truck collisions have gone up 38% over last year.

OPP say the 33 crashes so far in 2018 have killed 41 people.

There have been two fatal transport-related crashes in northwestern Ontario.

That’s down from 5 at the same time last year.

Province wide, Police have so far investigated more than 3,600 transport-related collisions and taken 658 vehicles off the road.

OPP have laid more than 1,615 speeding charges, 354-distracted driving charges and 963-defective equipment-related charges.

The provincial police have started a campaign called Operation Safe Trucking to draw attention to the problem.

Officers will be looking at aggressive driving, distracted driving, hours of service and equipment violations.
