Thunder Bay won’t be hosting Noront Resources’ ferrochrome processing plant.
The company announced it’s narrowed its choices for the project down to Sault Ste. Marie or Timmins.
City officials say they’re disappointed to have been passed over, but optimistic there could still be some benefits for Thunder Bay and Fort William First Nation since the plant will still be in Northern Ontario.
They say it could offer the city the chance to provide materials to the ferrochrome plant, and it will create more jobs in the North.
A release from Noront says despite community support in Thunder Bay for the proposal, they had concerns about its environmental impact because the proposed site has a body of water running through it. (File Photo)
