Provincial Police are out with the number of charges they laid over the long weekend.
Sergeant Shelley Garr says in the Northwest Region, they laid 281 speeding charges, 4 charges of distracted driving and issued 27 seat belt charges.
However when looking at the entire province, there were two fatalities.
OPP say a 79-year-old woman died after being hit by a driver who was reportedly using a hand-held communications device. Another person drowned while canoeing, and was apparently not wearing a personal floatation device.
Garr says that fortunately there were no serious incidents in this region, and says the public plays a very important part when it comes to preventing tragic incidents on the road and waterways.
