OPP Preparing For Legalization Of Recreational Pot

Provincial Police in northwestern Ontario say they are ready as they can be for the legalization of marijuana.

It will be legal to light up a joint in public starting Wednesday.

Inspector Jeff Duggan says the province has really changed the dynamic for police by allowing marijuana to be smoked wherever tobacco can be consumed.

He calls the move a “huge change for police”, noting it’s a shift from something that is done in private to something that can be done in public.

Duggan admits the change is a concern for police but stresses they will adapt.

Duggan says they have trained their officers to identify drivers who might be using cannabis and driving.
