OPP Promising To Work With Pikangikum

Provincial Police say they will be working alongside local band council and leaders of Pikangikum as it continues to analyze the factors surrounding a violent protest Saturday.

The OPP Detachment and several police cruisers were trashed after an officer with the Pikangikum First Nations Police Service sought refuge from angry protesters upset over the tasering of an individual.

Sergeant Peter Leon says it’s important to recognize that this was an unfortunate incident.

Leon says they want to ensure something like this never happens again.

He notes they want to ensure no stone is left unturned in their investigation.

Leon says they’ve always had an excellent working relationship with band members and community leaders.

He adds the OPP strives on providing quality policing services to the community.
