Ontario Provincial Police in northwestern Ontario want you to be careful with your identification.
OPP say thieves can easily find your information by going through your garbage for old bills or on-line by sending phony emails containing malware when you open them.
Detective Staff Sergeant Bryan Gast says unfortunately more than 95% of people don’t report identify theft and mass marketing fraud.
Gast says your information can be used to create such things as fake Health Cards and Passports.
He recommends checking your monthly bank statements, shredding bills and conducting credit checks.
