OPSEU Calls For More Correctional Officers In Kenora

The Kenora jail has been called a human powderkeg by a provincial union.

Warren Thomas is the President of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and is calling for the government to immediately hire more correctional officers for the overcrowded facility.

He says while the recent hiring of 500 new officers province wide is a step in the right direction, help is needed in Kenora, where four inmates sometimes fill a small cell designed for one person.

Thomas adds the government has not given a timeline to assist Kenora, where too few officers work among many inmates.
