OPSEU Opposing Private Pot Stores

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union is raising concerns about the government’s plan to privatize the sale of cannabis, when it’s finally legalized next month.

Union President Warren “Smokey” Thomas says the previous Liberal government had already hired a management team and developed plans where to locate publically owned marijuana stores.

He notes their position came from the input from police, harm reduction specialists and addiction experts.

Thomas says the PC strategy to sell pot is a major policy shift, which has been made without any public consultation.

He is urging Premier Doug Ford to give communities a choice if they want publically run, or privately operated cannabis stores.
