Corrections staff in Ontario have approved a strike mandate.
Last week, members of the Ontario Public Services Employess Union votes 96% in favour of the action.
The vote comes before the current contract expires at the end of the year.
At a rally outside the Kenora Jail local president James Nowe says OPSEU is unhappy with the province’s opening baragining position stating the current offer does not address issues around working conditions, under staffing, and over crowding.
Nowe says it’s hard to predict when strike action might be taken saying they could be locked out as soon as the contract expires on December 31st.
