An Animal Transfer program has helped bring some 140 cats from Dryden and Kenora to southern Ontario in order to find homes.
90-cats were picked up from the Second Chance Pet Network, while another 50-were collected in Kenora and transferred to Welland.
Judy Cannon of the SPCA says both animal shelters were reaching capacity and officials really wanted to find the felines a home.
Cannon says they were happy to provide support, with the aid of several other partners.
She admits this type of work is happening in the north weekly, noting there is an over-population challenge with both cats and dogs.
Cannon notes shelter workers in Dryden and Kenora took such great care of the cats, noting all animals arrived in Welland in perfect health.
She says they spent a day or two for monitoring and now most of the cats have found a new family.
