The federal government will bring in the RCMP to help with the so-called policing crisis in Thunder Bay, if asked.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale stresses that issues with individual police forces are up to the municipality and province to address for the most part.
Goodale says any request for help would have to come from the impacted community.
Previously the leaders of a number of northern First Nations have asked for the RCMP to get involved with the current events in the Lakehead.
Goodale adds what he calls “this kind of angst” hurts the strength of the country.
