Overhaul Of Police Oversight System Recommended

The provincial government has been given 129 recommendations to improve the police oversight system in Ontario.

Justice Michael Tulloch has released his final report, based on over 1,500 interviews and consultations.

He says one of the recommendations is giving the Director of the Special Investigations Unit more leeway when it comes to laying charges.

Tulloch says changes are needed to widen the scope of SIU investigations.

Tulloch also suggests creating a new bill regarding police oversight.

The Liberals say they will begin implementing a number of the recommendations, including the release of all past and future SIU investigations.
