A plan is in place to retain and recruit nurses to rural, remote and northern communities.
A task force, launched by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, is making 23 recommendations with that goal in mind.
Committee co-chair David McNeil believes all are doable under existing funding and policy models.
McNeil says the ultimate goal is to improve access to care.
Among the recommendations include improving education opportunities and creating a rural orientation program for new nurses working in remote and northern communities.
Others include new partnership opportunities and addressing the wage disparity between the community and hospital sectors.
McNeil says the provincial government is generally supportive of the recommendations.
