A huge blow for the Ontario Progressive Conservatives.
Patrick Brown has resigned as party leader in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations levied by two women, who were teens, when the alleged incidents occurred years ago.
The women made the accusations in an exclusive interview with CTV News.
In a statement, Brown states these allegations are false and have been difficult to hear, however defeating Kathleen Wynne in 2018 is more important than one individual.
He says he consulted with caucus, friends and family and decided to step down.
Brown adds he will remain on as a MPP while “I definitively clear my name from these false allegations”.
He says he will use every resource available to fight the claims in court.
It’s unclear who will replace Brown and how the new leader will be chosen.
A statement issued by the deputy leaders said “caucus will immediately consult with party officials and members on best way to move forward.”
Ontario goes to the Polls June 7.
