Northwestern Ontario’s economy got its time to shine at a meeting in Turin, Italy recently.
At the G7 Labour and Employment Ministers meeting, Canadian Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says she discussed how our region has coped with a quickly-changing economy by becoming more diverse and establishing strong partnerships.
Hajdu says she also spoke about how the northwest has dealt with the loss of mining and forestry jobs.
The Thunder Bay-Superior North MP says this region is experiencing a shortage in care givers because of an aging population.
Hajdu says one focus of the two-day meeting was how to encourage seniors to stay in the workforce longer.
She notes the key is not leaving talent behind, stating countries need to focus on attracting Indigenous workers and those living with a disability.
