After reviewing the program, the province has agreed to continued funding for safe injection sites.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says there are currently 18 sites operating, with three more, including one in Thunder Bay, that had been previously approved.
Elliott says those centres will be allowed to open after applying under a new criteria.
She notes the facilities will be re-named Consumption and Treatment centres, with $331.3-million going towards their operation.
Elliott says other applications will be accepted, however their approval will be based on location and need.
She says the government will also spend $3.8-billion to create a comprehensive and coordinated mental health and addictions program.
Elliott notes this is one step along the treatment process.
