Progressive Conservatives hope to carry the momentum of a by-election win in Sault Ste. Marie to other parts of northern Ontario.
No Tory had been able to capture that riding since 1981.
Leader Patrick Brown says it shows his party has the potential of a strong showing across the region in the next provincial election.
Brown says with another PC member from the north, they can hold the province even more accountable for the decisions impacting the region.
He feels the win also shows that their message of the need for a more prosperous Ontario that includes the north is beginning to resonate with voters.
Brown says one of the priorities for him, if elected Premier next year, will be to move forward on a transportation corridor in the Ring of Fire.
