The leader of the Provincial Opposition is calling for changes to the apprenticeship program.
Tim Hudak was in Thunder Bay Thursday and says the North is looking at a major shortage in skilled workers.
He says the time is now to make it easier to fill those positions.
Hudak says we have an unemployment rate of 12% but a need for skilled workers.
He notes the Finance Department predicts by 2021 we could see a million vacancies for skilled trades workers.
Hudak says he’s hoping the McGuinty Government adopts his plan that will create 200,000 new jobs in the skilled trades.
