PC Party Asking For Ring Of Fire Plan

The PC Critic for Northern Development and Mines says the province lacks a detailed plan to develop the Ring of Fire.

Norm Miller is reacting to the recent Ontario Auditor General report which describes a number of facets of the massive mining project where performance markers, timelines and specific plans are lacking.

Miller says the report confirms the concerns they’ve been raising for some time now.

He stresses the Ring of Fire must be a priority for the Liberal government.

The report revealed the Ring of Fire Secretariat, with three regional offices and 19-staff, has incurred operating costs of $13.2-million since being formed in 2010.

It also shows the Secretariat has continuously missed milestones established by the government for the development of the mining project.

The report finds the Development Corporation still has no representation from First Nations, industry of the federal government since being formed last August, costing taxpayers $550,000.
