A northern Ontario MPP says a leaked government document regarding future hydro rates is backing concerns the Progressive Conservatives initially had with the Fair Hydro Act.
The document suggests rate increases of 6.5% for the first five years following by jumps of 10%.
It points to the average homeowner paying $225 a month by 2040.
The PC’s Vic Fedeli says the Liberal’s plan is more about them getting re-elected in 2018.
Fedeli says the strategy does nothing to fix the current hydro problems.
He notes the Liberals hope to reduce rates by 25% this summer.
Fedeli says that will cost the government $50-billion spread over 30-years.
The NDP is suggesting the Financial Accountability Office of Ontario to take at look at the costs associated with the Fair Hydro plan.
