An animal activist in Dryden is urging the provincial government to ban the declawing of cats.
A 600-signature petition started by Camille Cox was presented at Queen’s Park yesterday by Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell.
The petition states that decalwing cats is an unnecessary cosmetic procedure that destroy’s a cat’s quality of life.
It also reads the practice leads to behavioural and health problems.
Campbell is supporting the petition and the information contained in it.
Campbell says “declawing” is actually the amputation of a cats toes.
She notes it removes the animals natural defence and leaves them helpless in situations where their lives may be in danger.
She adds it causes permanent damage.
