Phil Vinet Hoping To ‘Grow The North’

A recent gathering of municipal leaders in Thunder Bay resulted in positive gains.
That’s the belief of Phil Vinet, the Executive Vice-President of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association.
‘Growing the North’ was the theme and Vinet says they learned creating partnerships is essential to grow local economies.
One of the keynote speakers of the Northwest Regional Conference was Bruce Firestone, the founder of the Ottawa Senators.
Vinet says he talked about building on your strengths and addressing your weaknesses.
He notes municipalities should be looking in their own backyard for opportunities instead of always relying on the Federal and Ontario governments.
Vinet adds the overall theme was creating partnerships to move forward.
Three Provincial Ministers also provided updates on several issues including energy and transportation.
