Pickle Lake Hoping To Take Advantage Of Infrastructure Funding

The mayor of Pickle Lake is hoping his community can take advantage of a new provincial infrastructure fund.

Karl Hopf was in Kenora this week for a round-table discussion about the Building Ontario Up program.

Hopf says it’s important for small, remote communities like his to be included in any infrastructure funding and is hoping this program doesn’t get shelved

He says the government needs to take into account the high cost of construction in the far north when designing these infrastructure programs.

Hopf adds the federal government recently came up with funding for a new municipal office in Pickle Lake, but they couldn’t take advantage because the province didn’t have any matching funding available for that kind of project.
