Pikangikum and Indian Affairs Still Disagree

Pikangikum First Nation and the Federal Government have gone to court in hopes of settling a year-old dispute with Indian Affairs.
Chief Louie Quill maintains Ottawa is trying to control the band by appointing a so-called Indian agent to run community affairs.
Quill insists the First Nation had a clear audit and a surplus budget when the agent was appointed.
However, Indian Affairs claims the year-over-year debt has increased to more than one-million dollars.
Meantime, Pikangikum has signed an accord with three native groups in Manitoba over a land fight.
The First Nations are seeking more control over economic development on traditional native territories.
