A campaign by the provincial government to crack down on distracted drivers is a step in the right direction.
So says Dryden Police Chief Rob Davis who is asking the government to go one step farther and impound vehicles and take licence’s away.
Davis says distracted driving has surpassed impaired driving as the leading cause of vehicle deaths in Ontario.
In 2013, distracted driving contributed to 78-deaths in Ontario compared to 57 for impaired driving.
The proposed legislation would carry an increased fine and demerit points and would be the toughest anti-distracted driving law in the country.
