Police Service Demanding Action

The Nishnawbe-Aski Nation has given the Federal and Provincial
Governments a 30-day ultimatum to address the growing policing crisis in
the Far North.
Grand Chief Stan Beardy says 34 of 35 police detachments in NAN
communities are not up to code.
Beardy says if upgrades aren’t conducted within 30-days, officers
will be removed, putting those communities at risk.
Officials are hoping some of the $400-million set aside in the
Federal Budget to recruit police officers across Canada, will be directed to
the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.
