The Township of Pickle Lake is not the only Northern community dealing
with high policing costs.
Sioux Lookout Mayor Kathy Kiepick says a change to the Provincial
funding formula has pushed the cost to deliver police services through the roof.
She says their bill for policing has jumped from $215-thousand to over a million.
Kiepick notes their share has now dropped slightly due to 1-time
funding but stresses its still too high.
She says she understands Pickle Lake’s frustration and eventual
threat to hand the communities books to the Provincial Government.
