The Mayor of Atikokan believes the Ontario Commission on Civil Policing
doesn’t have a problem with a proposal to replace the Town’s Police force.
The Council recently met with officials to make sure everything is in
place for a switch to the OPP.
Dennis Brown says the move will result in an OPP force of 14 officers and 1 staff member.
Brown expects to hear the Committee’s decision before the end of the
month and OPP service could be in place by January 1st after the current
OPP Detachment is renovated.
The Commission wanted to ensure the proposal meets the needs of the
community and that a fair severance package is in place for Atikokan Police
Service members.
