Atikokan Township Council is forming a task force to look at ways to save money on policing in the community.
After a recent police costing study, Atikokan decided it was more cost-effective to keep its own municipal force rather than switch to the O-P-P.
Mayor Dennis Brown says the new task force will also look at inequities in policing funding across the province.
He says Atikokanites pay about 600-dollars per household for policing while other communities are paying as little as 90-dollars per household.
