Political Expert Weighs In On Election Results

Premier-elect Doug Ford is being questioned how he plans to follow through on promises to support northwestern Ontario.

Lakehead University political science professor Laure Paquette says Ford needs to share how he plans to help this region.

Paquette calls his election promises “really vague”.

In terms of the Ring of Fire, Paquette says Ford pledged to eliminate red tape, but said nothing about building rail lines and roads to the mining site.

Paquette says the future of the north depends on whether Ford appoints a strong cabinet and listens to them.

She also isn’t surprised with the election loss of Bill Mauro in Thunder Bay-Rainy River.

The Liberal represented the riding for 15-years but lost in a tight race last Thursday night.

Paquette points out that Mauro came close to losing his seat two elections ago, pulling out a win by a similar margin that he lost by this time around.

When it comes to Michael Gravelle, Paquette doesn’t believe he is going anywhere.

The Liberal was once again re-elected in the provincial vote and Paquette doesn’t think he will end his term early.

She says the Grits need every seat in that House right now.
