Extreme Cold Warning Issued

The first day of February will start much like the last day of January.

An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for northwestern Ontario.

Daniel Liota with Environment Canada says the temperature will fall throughout the day.

“It’s going to get quite cold. By later this afternoon it will be at about -17 and then tonight we will be dipping down to a low of -27 and the wind chill may be as cold as -38.”

Liota says snowfall amount could hit another two to four centimetres.

Combined with high winds and blowing snow, the highways are expected to be slippery, with poor visibility.

Also, Highway 1 between Hadashville and the City of Winnipeg has been closed due to poor travel conditions.
