The local Youth Action Alliance is calling on the Province to ban spit
tobacco.
400-postcards have been collected in our region and added to the pile
accumulated in Thunder Bay.
Dryden member Kate Bousfield says kids are being attracted
by appealing tobacco ads without knowing the dangers of using chew.
The Alliance says spit tobacco is more addictive than cigarettes and
can lead to heart, gum and tooth disease as well as mouth cancers.
A new survey shows that chew is used by 10% of High School aged
youth in Northwestern Ontario, a number that is higher than the rest of the
province.
All of the postcards have been delivered to Thunder Bay-Atikokan Liberal MPP Bill Mauro.
