Pot Legalization Approved By Senate

By a vote of 52-29, the Senate has passed the latest version of the federal government’s bill legalizing recreational marijuana.

Bill C-45 now moves to royal assent which could happen within days.

The federal government had initially planned for the bill to become law in time for retail sales on July 1st.

But that date was derailed after the Senate asked for more time to review the bill.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet can now choose the actual date of legalization which will likely be in 8 to 12 weeks to give provinces time to prepare for sales.

Canada is now set to become the first G-7 nation and only the second country in the world after Uruguay to legalize recreational marijuana.
