Preferred Route Set For Highway 17 Twinning

Engineers have come out with a preferred route to begin the twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Kenora.

Neil Ahmed says they take a number of factors into consideration.

That includes natural, social, community, heritage and archaeology factors.

Ahmed stresses they don’t do this work alone.

He says they have to go through a lot of field work, investigations and discussions with different agencies as well as impacted communities.

Ahmed notes they are currently going through the Environmental Assessment stage.

Government officials still hope to begin construction next Fall.
