The provincial government says its fully supportive of a recommendation to create two new ridings in northern Ontario.
Premier Kathleen Wynne says they are planning to draft a bill early this Fall and is hoping for all-party support in order to implement the legislation for the 2018 election.
Wynne adds she hasn’t heard any complaints from her Toronto-area constituents about increasing the number of ridings in the north.
Under the recommendations from the Northern Electoral Boundaries Commission, the Kenora-Rainy River Riding would be split in two, and Timmins-James Bay would be separated, so the City of Timmins has its own riding.
