Progress Being Made On Provincial Indigenous Plan

Progress, but still plenty of work ahead.

That’s how a provincial cabinet minister sums up progress on a strategy released a year ago to end violence against Indigenous women and girls.

Status of Women Minister Indira Naidoo-Harris says it is an urgent priority for government.

She notes Indigenous women and girls are three times more likely to be affected by violence than non-Indigenous women.

Naidoo-Harris says that statistic is both troubling and unacceptable.

The Ontario Liberals are contributing $100-million over three years to carry out the recommendations of the strategy drafted in partnership with aboriginal organizations.
