Proposed Bill Should Benefit Northwestern Ontario

A new revenue-sharing bill at Queen’s Park could provide an economic engine for First Nations in Northwestern Ontario.
NDP Member Gilles Bisson proposed Bill 97 to give First Nations taxation rights.
He says there isn’t a mechanism for native communities to benefit from mining or timber on their traditional land.
First Nations have to negotiate agreements with Corporations wanting to do business in their area.
Bisson says the Bill would provide more certainty for both companies and First Nations wanting to work together.
